Do you think it would be possible to earn enough money over 1 year on Hubpages.com to buy a car?
My wife Alison, who also writes on Hubpages, and I have realised that our poor old car is on it's last legs and will soon be heading for that great scrap heap in the sky.
We reckon that we will get another year before we have to say goodbye to a loyal family friend.

The Hubpages Challenge
My wife is the driver in the house, I have never had the urge or even the want to drive a car, driving does not interest me in the slightest and you could write everything that I know about cars in large Bold capital letters on the back of a postage stamp.
But we do need a new car, every month without fail there is something that goes wrong with our old car and it means another trip to the garage for another new part leaving us out of pocket again.
My wife like myself likes to be frugal and we both realise that taking on finance on a new car is not what we want to do, paying almost double what a car is worth just because you want to pay it over time is stupid because by the time you have paid for the car, the car is past it's sell by date and it's time to start the whole process all over again.
As a Joke Alison made a comment that stuck in my head, "Why don't you make the money on Hubpages" she said with a giggle and then she quickly dismissed the idea.
The idea stuck in my head though and it has become a challenge I with Alison's blessing have given myself one year to try and earn enough from Hubpages to buy a new car.
Of course a new car would be impossible, but the aim is to earn enough from my hubs to buy a good quality used car and have enough money to pay to tax and insure it.
The pictures on the top right are good family cars and are Alison's first and second choice.
Both of these cars in good condition would normally sell for around £3000.00 or in American Money around $6000.00 this is a real challenge to me because at the moment my average earnings from hubpages comes in at around $1800.00 per year.
Of course if I do fail I can use the money that I do earn as a down payment on the new car.

Now I Have a Goal
For the past few months, my participation on hubpages has been minimal to say the least, I have not had the get up and go to create new hubs nor have I had the inspiration to produce hubs on the scale that I used to, I have not read as many hubs or replied to as many as I and many of the hubbers who have been here for a while have been used to.
One reason for this is that because I have began full time employment, instead of working from home I have alot less time than I used to spend on Hubpages.
Another reason is that I am more tired at the end of each day because of work that I can hardly think straight nevermind produce a hub.
My final reason is that I find it painful to write on my computer because I have been diagnosed with Repetitive Strain Injury for which I am attending regular Physiotherapy sessions.
But now I have a goal I hope to change my Hubbing Habbits.
I have to learn more about marketing my hubs and I need to try and research material that will help me to monetise my hubs better, I need to learn more about keywords, social networking, bookmarking, backlinks and Seo, I need to put what I learn into practice and begin writing my hubs with a more professional attitude.
I have been writing Hubs as a hobby and I have made money without even trying.
The Goal
To try and achieve the $6000.00 goal, I will need to produce at least 5 new hubs every week, each of them will have to be on a niche topics and each of the topics will have to be well researched.
I will need to ensure that all of my new hubs are unique and that there is very little information on the internet for them, and that there is a demand out there on the net for the information.
At the moment it seems like an impossible task but I relish the challenge and it has given me a fresh enthusiasm to write, which I have been sadly lacking in recent months.

Our New Car
Update 09/05/08
There has been a slight change in plan to the objective of this page, circumstances have changed and the challenge has become a monthly earning challenge, you see the car we were going to keep for a year before renewing passed away last Thursday, The Head Gasket went BANG!!! and it would have cost us a lot more money to repair that the car was actually worth.
The car is now scrap metal having been taken away on Sunday.
I did not want to buy a new car until next year but because of the sad loss of our old car I had to do the thing that I certainly had no intention of doing and I had to purchase a car on Hire Purchase, the car will be mine in 2 years and it costs me around $300.00 a month, therefore that is my new target for the challenge.
The strange thing is that since I started the Challenge my earnings from the hubpages affiliates have dropped dramatically but i am sure that they will pick up again soon.

Good luck. Nice goal. I would check out entrepreneurs-journey.com, becomeablogger.com, blogtrafficking.com. I just found these sites this past week. And while they are about blogginb (which in a sense is what Hub pages is) they offer solid advice on building traffic, and finding the right niche. And best of all, info is free.
How about a few Hubs telling us about your Physiotherapy? How you decided on that type of treatment, does it work for you, etc.

I think you can do it. Just write, write, write and don not give up even when you think you wount make it, because with determination and hard work...you will.
My truck is 30 years old and I can hardly believe it still runs. If there was a way to get a safer one via hubpages, I would sure go for it. I've also faced the same burnout you have. After 400 articles, what more is there to say? And you'd be hardpressed to find a topic, especially one about earning money, that hasn't already been done to death. If anyone can do it you can though. And I'd love you to make a believer out of me. You do know that now you have 2 full time jobs.

I suspect you might do quite well promoting some of your existing hubs rather than writing new ones: backlinks are the key - get yourself up in teh SERPS for the hubs which give you the best earnings
I have a question though: don't take this the wrong way but I know several guys who don't drive - and Ive never had the nerve to ask: how do you dare put that burden on your wife? She has to do all the running around: you the kids everything - what happens if she gets sick ? How can an adult without a medical condition not drive in the western world - and lets face it Scotland has a worse public transport system than Australia - which is bad!

Best of luck to you Jimmy & Alison! I believe you are far better than many hubbers here in term of annual earning. Maybe you can pick up a niche topic and start your own website with that niche topic. Drive traffic to your website and sell your niche topic. There are many affiliate programs on the internet and i believe it is not hard to find one that the market is ready to buy. It is always good to have your own website because you don't have the constraint of "overly promotional" warnings.
