Hairy or Bald?

Being folically challenged or in laymens terms slightly balding, it is no surprise that when asked to produce a page on the theme of hair for a hubpages experiment I was stumped, I didn't know what I was going to write about and I really didn't want to take part because (pardon the pun) the subject was over my head.

I promised everyone that I would take part in the challenge and I hate to let anyone down, I searched and searched for a hair related subject that I knew something about to no avail, I have no idea about hair styles or colors or what the latest celebrity Do's are. what i know about hair you could write in letters 1 cm high and 1cm wide on the back of a postage stamp.

I can't tell the difference between a bouffant and a pony tail so what was the point of even trying to help out with the experiment.

Then a thought came to me, (yes miracles do happen) I could write about the beautiful long flowing hair that my wife has, how shiny and soft it is and how I love to run my fingers throught it and err well I had to stop there, Hubpages terms and conditions would not allow me to publish the thoughts I had after that.

Then another thought came into my head (Two in one day things must be looking up).

My son and Daughter both dance Disco freestyle in competition and they have had many different hairstyles to suit the dance and the costumes that they wear, I could write about that but I wouldn't have the first clue where to start, I don't style their hair for the comps, I leave that to people who know what they are doing.

So what will I write about then My third thought of the day (I'm on a roll now but I am starting to get a headache) was to write about my own lack of hair listing the advantages and disadvantages of being bald. and that is what this hub is all about I hope you enjoy.

When I was younger in the late 70's early 80,s I had a full head of thick curly hair, so much so that I was nicknamed the bleached Jackson after the famous Jackson 5 (Michael Jackson has stolen my nick name and copyrighted it so I cannot use it anymore).

I would have fitted right in with the Jacksons if my skin was slightly darker and my hair wasn't snowy white.

As I grew older in my early 20's to be exact My hair began to grow in thinner and thinner untll the present day where if I let my hair grow there is a massive space at the top of my head where hair used to thrive.

I shave my head now once or twice a week because I think that I would rather be Bald than Balding.

I do still have the look of a major celebrity but rather being like the Jackson 5 I am now more like Yul Brynner or even Tele Savales (Kojak).

"Who loves ya Baby!!!"

Although I would rather have a full head of hair there are a few advantages to being bald.

Being bald saves you a lot of money, no more need for shampoo or conditioner. no need for hair curlers or even hair srtaighteners, no need to buy hairclips or hairbands, hair spray or hair gel, and you save on electricity too the hair dryer becomes redundant as a quick wipe with a towel is all you need.

No more worries about headlice or any other crawling insects for that matter is one of the bigger advantages.

Bad hair days become a thing of the past.

you can go to bed straight after a shower or a bath, because your head is dry in an instant, with hair you either have to wait for at least an hour or plug in the dryer or you will find youself trying to fall asleep on a sodden pillow.

In the rain your head may get wet but hey it only takes a quick wipe with a towel rather than dripping all over your paperwork at work.

The more I write here the more I get to thinking that it is great to be bald, who needs hair anyway and the we come to the disadvantages of being bald.

Winter you know those days when you are out walking on a frosty morning and your ears get so cold and sore that you feel like you want to cut them off to spare your pain, then imagine just how cold they get when they have no hair to cover them up.

I cannot wear a hat, ever since I was a baby in my crib I have never been able to cover my head, I have a real fear of wearing them and I dont even know if there is a name for my Phobea, this not only applies to hats but to hoods and even bandanna's, therefore when there is an icy rain or hail my head has no protection, and I suffer major pain that can last for days rather than hours and where I live in Scotland we get alot of that type of weather.

I did put a santa hat on for a hubpages profile pic at Christmas 2 years ago but I only wore it for the few seconds that it took for the picture to be taken.

The one thing I do miss about having hair though is the fact that my wife cannot run her fingers through it during intimate moments.
