Nintendo DSI Review

The Nintendo DS was the best selling handheld in the world and it is still loved by everyone who owns one but can the new Nintendo DSI the upgraded version of the DS be as popular with consumers.

Nintendo DS v Nintendo DSI

The Nintendo Ds is a little smaller than the DSI but the screen on the DSI is a quarter of an inch bigger, they are both operated using a stylus on the touch screen or if you prefer you can use your fingers.

The DS has a slot that allows you to play Gameboy advance games; this slot has been removed from the DSI to make way for an SD Memory card. The card which costs extra; can be used to store pictures or music, the memory card can also be used to store downloaded games from the new online Nintendo store, you can buy games, add-ons for games and applications.

Two Cameras

The biggest change from the Upgrade is that the Nintendo DSI has 2 cameras one on the inside and one on the outside both allows the user to take and edit pictures.

Wireless Access

It was one of the big failures of the DS, it was only able to work on old insecure networks protected with WEP security, the DSI does work on the newer more secure WPA but is a little complicated to get it working, there are a lot of wireless profiles to chose from but WPA only works with some of them.

The DSI is a great games console it can play all of the existing DS games the cameras are a fun addition especially with the editing options but you could get very easily bored with it.

The music player is a good innovation to the DSI but it is a little restricted because it only works on the I-Tunes AAC format and not MP3, which is a lot more popular.

Although the wireless access is complicated it is more secure than the older DS version.

The slightly larger screen makes it a little easier on the eye when reading text.

Yeah the Wireless access was the deal clincher for me, the two cameras will also come in handy though I guess!

Jimmy - the DSI. Is that the one you can play Zelda on? If so, I want one. Camera feature has got to be a winner. Any idea on picture quality?

Thanks for this :)
