Gala Bingo Email Lottery

I received an email today claiming to be from GalaBingo.com stating that my email address has been chosen in a random drawing as a part of their 20th anniversary celebration.

The email went on to say that from a prize fund of £1.8million I have won a cash prize to the value of £600.000.

I receive at least one email everyday from one lottery or another in my Gmail spam folder claiming that I have won a lot of money, and most of them are from scammers trying to get me to give them my bank details so that they can clean me out.

This email was slightly different because instead of going straight to my spam folder in Gmail it came straight to my inbox.

Being dubious about this email Instead of contacting the email address contained in the email, I went to the Galabingo website and contacted them on this link http://help.galabingo.com/help/contact_us/ Stating that I had received the email and that i thought it was a scam and that they should be made aware of it.

I received an email back from GalaBingo.com thanking me for contacting them and telling me that they do know about this scam email and that they are in no way associated with the email lottery. If you receive any email like this one in the future you should delete it without opening it.

I think you were right to be suspicious. I also do as you say and go direct to the company. Sometimes I recieve emails which get through my spam filter which obviously are fake emails. Whilst I realise that it's a scammer, I am sure there are some people who don't realise this, and sadly it is often the most vulnerable who fall for such scams. As such, I hope that by alerting the company, they will take further action (alerting law enforcement agencies, ISPs etc) as at the end of the day it is their image which is potentially being harmed.

I used to care for a 90 year old woman that was pretty sure she won a new car every week in her junkmail. We really have to help those around us who fall for every scam out there.
