Hubpages Changes for the better?

Shock and Awe Tactics
Unless you have been living on another planet over the past few weeks you will have noticed that there have been major changes made at Hubpages on a daily basis which have effected everyone who writes on the site.
These changes have happened so fast and so unexpected that they have left a lot of us confused and unsure of what to do about them.
Some of these changes have been beyond the control of the Hubpages team like the changes made by Google to their search Algorithm which had an almost instant impact on Hubbers who lost visitors and earning potential overnight.
There have been changes to the Hubpages Terms Of Service, a new Hubpages Layout a new Hubpages advertising program, changes to the way Amazon ads are to be displayed with a minimum word count for each ad and a new Google Adsense layout is being rolled out on the site.
Dealing with all of these changes seems like an uphill struggle at the moment considering that it has all happened so fast but as the old saying goes "What doesn't kill us can only make us stronger".
Losing Money?
I have been writing on Hubpages for over 4 years and in that time I have seen many changes to the site, different ad layouts, different advertisers, new capsules to enhance Hubs and a couple of complete overhauls to the site which have all been beneficial to Hubbers and their earnings.
Earnings rise and earnings fall but most of the time my earnings steadily increased month by month by around 10 percent.
Never in my time at Hubpages have I seen a change that had so much impact on the site than the recent changes to the Google algorithm which was beyond the control of the Hubpages team. Visitors are down, Earnings are down and sadly some Hubbers have decided to throw in the towel and call it a day.
The new Hubpages Ad Program has seen a drop in AdSense earnings too but the earning potential of the new program seems to outweigh the loss from AdSense at the moment. although I am eager to see if this will remain the case in the future.
Is it time to Panic? Earnings are down visitors are down and doom and gloom seems to be the in words at Hubpages and many of the other websites that have been affected by the new Google Algorithm.
At the moment it may seem like the end of an era but Hubpages has a knack of bouncing back from the most difficult situations and I have every faith that we can bounce back from this and be even more successful having learned some very important lessons.
Fighting Back
So how can we fight back and get Google back on side the answer is so simple that you already know it it has been the philosophy of Hubpages since before the site was launched By Paul Edmondson and the original team.
Write Quality content, write original content, research your topic thoroughly and if you want visitors to keep coming to your pages write evergreen content, topics that are relevant no matter what time of year it is.
Hubpages have already started the fightback changing layouts and rules copied content will no longer be accepted on the site, they have added new ad layouts and they have changed the rules on Amazon ads which means that you need to have a description of at least 50 words for each amazon product that you display on your pages.
The short term future of Hubpages may look bleak but in the long term the changes that are being made day to day on the site are positive steps which should ensure a long and Successful future for Hubpages and the Authors who stick to the rules.
How the changes Have Affected Me
At the moment compared to many other Hubbers I have been relativly unscathed from the changes to Google and the changes at Hubpages but that could change in the next few weeks,
According to my Google analytics my visitors are down by only 4.15% and having been accepted onto the new Hubpages Ad Program I have had a decrease in adsense earnings by around 60% of course the new Ad Program has given me an extra earning source which after the first week makes up for the loss of AdSense with around a 10% increase. what the future holds will be interesting to see.
I don't fear the future of Hubpages I embrace it and look forward to Hubbing for many years to come.
On a side note I made the Last payment on my car earlier this week which was fully paid for by my earnings on Hubpages. next target is a house lol so I am banking on the future of Hubpages for my future and the future of my family

Thanks for explaining the update and your faith in the future of HubPages. If you think it will be for the better than I'll have to have faith also. Two barks for you..."Ruff...Ruff."
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts about what's happening with HubPages. You made me feel a lot better about it.
I completely agree Jimmy. HubPages will rise from the ashes and will probably become even stronger because of the changes. It's a time when we as hubbers need to be patient and allow the recent internal changes to take effect.
It is truly a change for good. I've also learnt a lot of things I never or less knew about within this period of Google dance and policy updates by HubPages Team. Thanks to HubPages Team. It can only get better.
as always, concise to the point but even better I am so happy to see the low percentage that this change has affected you! I agree with you good content and a great site like Hubpages is what we need to get through these changing times!
xoxo
up and useful! Thanks for the encouragement. Just hope my figures compare to yours...
Great hub Jimmy. I'm sticking around.
As a new hubber, I'm still quite bewildered by it all, and just want to get out whatever message out there I'm trying to convey. I don't like that they've changed it so that you can't put content here that you have on another page, though I think I understand the reasoning behind it. But it also means I have a choice, take down the article off the other site to put here, or else just put up a link to it somewhere on my hub.
This Google Panda drastically effect my hubs, my traffics now is less than 50% before the algo deployed. My earning now is only 1/4. But I'm sticking around, this place not only a publishing site, more like living writers community.
And we know all people behind hubpages will always support us.
Thanks for this, Jimmy - as a newbie I have been a little nervous of the new algo. and its effect on HP. Thanks to you I feel a lot more reassured!
Cheers ...
Great Hub Jimmy! Thanks for the support and encouragement.
doing the deed with google involves adapting and being flexible. like a easter egg hunt keep those eggs in different areas (to earn money)
Thanks for explaining this further. I'm hoping things will get better for everyone here, and also have faith that it will. I'm in it for the long haul too :)
Great hub, Jimmy. Thanks for the encouragement.
GREAT Hub Jimmy!
Thanks for letting everyone know that no one needs to panic! HubPages, Paul, Robin and the entire HP Team work diligently to make this the BEST and most profitable-to-writers site in the world!
YOU are the BEST Jimmy!! Blessings always, EarthAngel!
I don't like the fact that we can't include more product listings.
@sincerely25, I felt a bit the same earlier, but looking at the true nature and quality of HubPages. Lots of affiliate ads including adsense and HubPages ad may make our pages look pushy with ads to the audience. This decent moderation will turn out good for us all. Happy hubbing.
Looks like I have been living under a rock. I just didn't pay attention. This was a great article. Thanks for the info!
You make a great deal of excellent points, Jimmy and I totally agree with you that Hub Pages are working really hard to improve the site for everyone. I have to say that I haven't noticed any drop off in Google traffic or Adsense earnings (touch wood!) but my Amazon earnings are down approximately eighty percent and it looks as though I'm not even going to reach payout threshold this month. Anyone have any idea why only my Amazon earnings should be affected...??
Well done Jimmy, good to see old faces still around. I recently have been trying to hub more even though of the changes. HubPages is really a one of a kind experience that I think still has a big future.
Thanks for clarification on this Jimmy. It really helps, as does your support. :)
I'm a bit bewildered, too, but this hub is very encouraging :)
I started to have over 400 visitors aday and was really proud but now I have just over 200. It is a real heartbreak. Why did Google have to do this? Surely they earned enough money.
Nicely said, Jimmy. I joined HP just before the turmoil and to be honest I'm going to take a brief break (a week or 2) from writing any more hubs, as I'm not sure of where the future lies for HP. It must be worrying for writers who've written hundreds of hubs and come to rely on a little extra money coming into their households. I have a few other projects of my own that I am going to work on, but I hope that HP can adapt to the unforeseen adjustments brought about by Google - the new algo must have hit them pretty hard financially.
A very good and optimistic explaination...and a great hub...thanks for the info and the boost in attitude. we all need that right now!
Beautiful Jimmy. I love optimistic people. They keep the world moving despite the doom and gloom. Thanks for sharing!
Sigh.
Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't quite sure what was going on with Google, but it's out of everyone's control anyway. Like you said, just keep the good stuff rolling out.
Cheers.
Useful hub, thanks for sharing.
Take care
Eiddwen.
I think that the new changes will flush out those who were treating this site just like a daily blog diary or others who were simply putting in ads with little relevant copy. Overall, HubPages will improve and I am certain that with time and effort on all of our parts, we will reap the rewards in the future. My total income has taken a dip but I am still earning a reasonable amount each month even with fewer daily views. So I plan to stay! Thanks for your encouraging words. Good luck as to buying that house!!!
A very useful hub for newcomers like myself. Thanks for sharing your insight.
I'm with Maggie. I am very new to this (and working my way through the 'tutorial' at this very moment); which is how I found YOU. Thanks for sharing your insights. It's good to know there are people who are actually earning money here. Write on!!!
thanks forthis clear explanation of the update
Great hub, Jimmy, and I agree with you about staying positive about it all!
