Valentine's Day Gifts That Men Really Want

Updated on January 3, 2010

Chocolate Heart for your Valentine

Valentines Day

February 14th is Valentines day, a day for friends and lovers to exchange gifts as a token of the love that they feel for each other.

Valentines day is also a day where you can declare your feelings to someone that you would like to become closer to,  by sending a card or a small gift such as a box of chocolates or a bunch of roses, with a hand written note stating that you would like to get to know them better and suggesting you go out on a date together.

Shy people can also get their message across on Valentines day, by sending a card without a signature, From a secret admirer.

Everyone loves to receive a card from a secret admirer; they find it exciting and they always try to work out who sent it to them.

Of course the sender must try to leave some clues on the card or even on the envelope so that the receiver can work out who their secret admirer is.

Valentines day is the busiest day of the year in Gretna green Scotland and all of the wedding chapels are booked solid for the whole day.

Getting engaged, 15% of couples who get engaged do so on Valentines day.

Everyone loves Valentines day, especially if they are romantically involved with someone, even those who are not, look forward to February 14th in the hope that a card will come through their door from someone they like.

Women love to be swept off their feet on Valentines Day, from a young age to old age they love the romance of the day and they love it when the man that they love pulls out all of the stops and treats them like a princess or a queen, women love to feel special even if it is only for 1 day out of 365.

What does Valentines Day Mean to You?

Men and Valentines Day

From school boy to pensioner and all of the times in between the male of the species goes through differing phases which in effect dictate his feelings about Valentines day, relationship status changes his perspective of the Day and his age has a big influence too.

UNDER 12's

Boys under 12 years old love to receive cards on any occasion, even on Valentines day, they proudly show them off to everyone they know with an excited look on their faces until someone points out to them that it is from a girl and then its "YUCK, OH NO! I WILL GET GIRL COOTIES"

most of the time though mum sends the card in secret.

AGE 12-16

Between the acne ages boys love to receive a Valentines Day card, but even if they don't get 1 they tell all of their friends that they got at least 3 of them, if they did get a card everyone in the whole school will find out about it and most of them will have handled it before the day is out.

Of course if mum or dad ask about Valentines Day cards, a blushing spotty face followed by an embarrased grunt is the only answer they receive.

AGE 16-21

The Transformation from boy to man is an interesting time especially on Valentines day, for singles who have never had a girlfriend it is a day of praying and waiting, praying that a simple card will fall through the mailbox and waiting 24 hours at the window for someone to post it through hoping beyond hope that a girl likes them enough to do so.

For the ones who do actually have a girlfriend, they expect a card at least one and they too sit at the window for 24 hours secretly hoping that they get a card from someone other than their girl.

Over 21 and Single

When we reach the age of 21 and we find that we are still unnattached, we change our thoughts on Valentines Day completely, We look at Valentines Day as just another ploy by store owners and card makers to get more money out of us.

Of course that point of view completely changes again in a split second if miracles happen and a card does get sent our way.

Valentines Day And The Married Man

When in a long term relationship Married or living together, Valentines Day is a mans chance to shine and earn some Brownie points, it is a day when he wants his partner to feel special, he wants his partner to feel happy and most of all he wants his partner to know and feel that she is loved.

Making Valentines Day as perfect for her as possible is his number 1 priority, chocolate hearts and flowers followed by a romantic candle lit dinner a slow dance to "Our song", then running her a hot bubble bath with candlelight and a topping it off with some rose petals; while she relaxes in the bath you go upstairs to the bedroom light some candles and sprinkle some more rose petals over the duvet, and prepare her favorite massage oils.

Of course this can be a bit tricky to achieve if there are children in the relationship, but with a little forward planning and the children having an early night you can still prove your love to the lady in your life and have a wonderful romantic night in.

I love You

Valentines Day Gifts for Men

To a man Valentines day is a day to make his partner feel special, and for once in his lifetime he wants his woman to be the centre of attention, if he had the money he would treat his other half to everything that she could ever wish for without batting an eyelid.

Men don't want chocolate hearts or frilly fancy cards, they don't want a bunch of pretty flowers or a fluffy toy holding a pink heart, men think that those kind of things are too girly and non masculine, men are practical beasts and like practical gifts.

A nice pen with I love you engraved on it, a new wallet with his initials, a nice watch, a mouse for his computer or something for his car.

He does not care if you spend $1.00 or $1000.00 on a gift for him but if it is something that you know that he likes he will appreciate more the thought behind the gift rather than the gift itself.

A man does not really want a gift for Valentines day because he feels that it is a day to make his partner feel special.

If he receives a card with the words I love you from his partner then his day is complete and if at the end of the day his partner turns around and says "thank you" and "I love you" then he knows that all of the effort that he put into the special day for his partner was worth it.
