The Great War Begins
On 28th of June 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand was Shot and killed in Sarajevo, Bosnia a part of Austria Hungary since 1908 although Neighboring country Serbia claimed Bosnia as its own.
Austria Hungary Blamed the assassination of Ferdinand on Serbia and Declared war on July 28th.
This was the beginning of the third Balkans war within the space of two years but it was to prove to be the beginning of war on a much larger scale because Russia supported Serbia, Germany Supported Austria Hungary and France Supported Russia.
On the 4Th of August 1914 Germany invaded Neutral Belgium on their way to France, intending to knock out France before turning their attentions to Russia.
Britain having promised Belgium that they would defend their neutrality declared war on Germany signaling the outbreak of World War One.
