The Great War Begins

On 28th of June 1914 Archduke Franz ferdinand was Shot and killed in Sarajevo, Bosnia a part of Austria Hungary since 1908 although Neighboring country Serbia claimed Bosnia as its own.

Austria Hungary Blamed the assasination of Ferdinand on Serbia and Declared war on July 28th.

This was the beginning of the third Balkans war within the space of two years but it was to prove to be the beginning of war on a much larger scale because Russia supported Serbia, Germany Supported Austria Hungary and France Supported Russia.

On the 4Th of August 1914 Germany invaded Neutral Belgium on their way to France, intending to knock out France before turning their attentions to Russia.

Britain having promised Belgium that they would defend their neutrality declared war on Germany signaling the outbreak of World War One.

This is an index of various articles written on Hubpages about World War One.

Hi :) A friend and I are doing Trench Warfare as a history day project in school and I love the information you've put on here and we've used it a lot... And don't worry we've given you credit. But I was wondering where you've gotten your information from and how we know it's reliable information to be basing facts on. Also do you have information on how and why World War I ended?? If so we'd appreciate it if you would add a page on that for us to you. Thanks :)
