CULZEAN CASTLE

EISENHOWERS CASTLE

The lone piper plays Amazing Grace as he marches up and down the battlements the bracing wind carries the eerie sound of the bagpipes for miles, behind him in the darkness the white lady is watching him the sorrow in her face obvious for all to see, only on a dark stormy night will you see them for they are long dead.

These are the ghosts that walk amongst the living and you can meet them too if you ever pay a visit to Culzean Castle in Ayrshire.

Culzean (cuh-lane) castle was a converted tower castle owned by the 10th Earl of cassillis David Kennedy and the Kennedy family owned the castle until 1945 when they donated the castle to the National Trust of Scotland on condition that the top floor of the castle be given to General Eisenhower (an interesting read from fellow hubber Patty Inglish) as a thank you from the Scottish people in recognition of his role as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during the Second World War. he first visited the castle in 1946 and on another 3 occasions once whilst he was President. He called the castle his Scottish Whitehouse.

The ghosts of Culzean Castle are said to be Thomas Kennedy murdered on the beach near the castle and his wife who commited suicide when she heard the news of his death.

Culzean castle today is a busy tourist attraction, with beautiful gardens, activities for children and has six rooms where you can stay as a guest.

I hope you enjoyed a little piece of my local history.....jimmy

On Friday the 23rd October 2009, there was a ghost hunt night held in culzean castle all proceeds went to the anthony nolan trust & we raised over £5000 pound as you had to be sponsored £100 pound to go. It Was a really interesting night for all who attended. We had to bring torches as they put the lights out, We used divining rods, weegie board & the writing board as well.I encountered a few spirits who were there, A lady in a ballgown & wig mid 30's in the dinning room along with a little boy who ran around playing with a wooden toy, in the round room i could hear children laughing-we later found out that there were two little boys-brothers. in the green room there was a lady in white standing in the room, a younger girl & a knight appeared as well.I asked the staff present about the Knight as the castle is not old enough, they didn't seem to know anything about him,on research today it turns out he is connected to the castle.I would highly recommend going to an event like this to anyone interested in spiritualism.
